It’s getting closer. The Philadelphia Flyers’ season opener is just next week on the 13th against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the NHL has finally released start times for the 2021 season.
The Flyers’ 56 game schedule features games starting at mostly normal times, with 44 games slated for a 7:00 p.m. EST puck drop. Given the NHL’s scheduling with teams only playing within the same time zone, it makes sense.
The season opener – which is also the home opener for the first time since 2013 – is one of the 12 games not at 7:00 p.m., but we knew that already. The Flyers will open the NHL season with a clash against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13th.
Rather than go through the schedule game by game, here are the 12 games that won’t start at 7:00 p.m.
- Wed. January 13th vs. Pittsburgh, 5:30 p.m. - NBCSN
- Mon. January 18th vs. Buffalo, 7:30 p.m.
- Wed. February 3rd vs. Boston, 8:00 p.m. - NBCSN
- Sun. February 7th at Washington, 12:00 p.m. - NBC
- Sun. February 21st at Boston, 3:00 p.m. - Lake Tahoe game on NBC
- Sun. February 28th at Buffalo, 3:00 p.m.
- Wed. March 17th at New York Rangers, 7:30 p.m. - NBCSN
- Sat. March 27th vs. New York Rangers, 1:00 p.m.
- Sun. April 11th vs. Buffalo, 2:00 p.m.
- Sat. April 17th vs. Washington, 12:30 p.m.
- Sun. April 18th vs. New York Islanders, 6:30 p.m. - NBC
- Sun. April 25th vs. New York Islanders, 6:00 p.m.
Six of the 12 non-7:00 p.m. start times will be Nationally televised, including the season opener and reported game at Lake Tahoe on Sunday, February 21st.
Eight of the 12 games fall on a weekend afternoon, which is a good change of pace to make it an all-day event.
It’s going to be weird – and refreshing – not having to stay up for any games on the West Coast. The latest start time will be for a NBCSN game on Wednesday, February 3rd against the Boston Bruins. That’ll have to do for the Flyers After Dark of the regular season, with two games starting at 7:30 p.m. as well.
