NORTHAMPTON COUNTY -- A man who police say threatened neighbors to stop setting off fireworks while wielding a machete has been charged with terroristic threats.

Colonial Regional Police were dispatched to the 4000 block of Maria Lane in Bethlehem at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of fireworks going off.

The caller later identified himself as Francis Coleman, 51, of Bethlehem.

Coleman advised the dispatcher that if it wasn't taken seriously, he would handle it himself, police say.

When police arrived on scene they were approached by several people that informed them that there was a male with a machete.

Police located the individual who was setting off the fireworks.

That individual informed police that Coleman approached him, removed his machete from it's sheath, and argued with him with the machete in hand.

According to the individual, Coleman was asked several times to put the machete back in the sheath, which he refused to do.

Police located Coleman as he was returning to his residence, walking with the machete still in his hand.

As police spoke with Coleman, he admitted to going to find the person who was setting the fireworks off and his intention was to scare them into stopping.

Coleman was charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, 2 counts of disorderly conduct, and harassment.

He was arraigned and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
