Stop, Drop, Adopt! Humane Society raises money for shelter - WBNG-TV

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- The Broome County Humane Society asked everyone to "Stop, Drop and Adopt" at their headquarters in Binghamton on Saturday.

The event included food from Doug's Fish Fry to raise money for the shelter, but that wasn't all.

A can drive was also held with raffle prizes up for grabs, and an opportunity to adopt a duck for the annual Duck Derby on July 26.

Lauren Heilweil, fund development coordinator for the Humane Society, told 12 News proceeds will go toward helping out the furry friends.

"The proceeds will go toward our spay and neuter program, going toward making up for some of the lost income that was a result of COVID-19, as well as medication and daily care," Heilweil said. "Just different things the animals might need as cruelty cases pop up and the animals come in and out."

The event was also part of the Bissel Pet Foundation's "Empty the Shelters" event.

Adoption fees are $25 if pre-approved.

"Empty the Shelters" continues through Sunday by appointment only.
