A 54-year-old man is dead after a daytime stabbing at a Detroit bus stop.

Police believe the stabbing occurred about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday when an argument between two men escalated at a bus stop near Grand River Avenue and Greenfield Road, according to a news release from the Detroit Police Department.

Preliminary information showed a 44-year-old man got into an argument with the 54-year-old, who he knew, police said.

The verbal altercation turned physical, and police say the 44-year-old stabbed the other man multiple times.

The 54-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 44-year-old who was taken into custody also was injured and taken to a hospital where he was listed in temporary serious condition, police said.

The incident remains under investigation and further information was not immediately available.
