ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Naz Hillmon turned in just the second 30-point, 20-rebound game in program history (35 points, 22 rebounds), as the No. 15-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team earned a 64-62 victory over Nebraska on Thursday night (Jan. 7) at Crisler Center in a game that came down to the final seconds.

The win improved the Wolverines record to and a program-best 8-0 start. The eight-game win streak also is the fifth-longest in program history.

After late turnovers from the Wolverines allowed the Cornhuskers to come back within two with 15 seconds left, Michigan got two clutch free throws from senior Akienreh Johnson, who was fouled on an inbound play with nine seconds left to nudge the lead back to four. With a foul to give, the Wolverines, leading 64-60, used it with four seconds on the clock. The Wolverines conceded an easy Nebraksa shot off the inbound play, leaving just two seconds on the clock. Michigan advanced the ball and Nebraska did not get off another shot.

Hillmon put together one of the best performances of her career and the history of the program, joining Abby Currier, who scored 33 points and had 20 rebounds against Notre Dame on Jan. 20, 1979, in the Michigan 30-20 club. Hillmon's achievement also was the first 30-20 game by a Big Ten student-athlete since Jan. 24, 2016.

Hillmon's feat was the fourth 20-point, 20-rebound Michigan performance and first since Cyesha Goree against Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2015. Hillmon is just the sixth Wolverine to grab at least 20 rebounds in a single game, with her 22 boards ranking second in U-M game history.

Junior Amy Dilk scored in double-digits, posting 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while Johnson added nine points and Hailey Brown had eight, including two three-pointers in the first quarter.

The Wolverines dominated the rebounds yet again, out-rebounding Nebraska, 59-32, behind Hillmon's 22 boards and eight from Dilk. Michigan turned 30 offensive rebounds -- 13 coming from Hillmon -- into 24 second-chance points.

Michigan and Nebraska exchanged baskets for much of the first quarter with Hillmon scoring 14 points to give U-M a 22-19 lead into the second quarter. The Wolverines struggled to find a basket in the first five minutes of the second quarter before Dilk hit a three-pointer to put Michigan up by one, 27-26, with 4:10 remaining in the first half.

Neither team gained more than a one-point edge the rest of the half as the Maize and Blue trailed by one, 35-34, heading into the halftime break. Hillmon scored 18 of Michigan's 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Dilk had six points, and Hailey Brown hit two triples in the first quarter.

Hillmon pulled down her eighth offensive board of the game and got the putback shot to fall to give the Wolverines a 45-41 lead, their largest since the first quarter, and end the U-M scoring drought with just over three minutes to play in the third quarter.

Michigan continued to break away from Nebraska, using a 9-0 run and icing the Cornhuskers offense for 4:13 to take a 52-41 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.

Four straight Michigan turnovers allowed Nebraska to go on a 7-0 run to come within four, 60-56, with 1:15 remaining in the contest. The Cornhuskers added two more points, forcing a Michigan timeout with a minute left on the clock. An offensive board and putback from Hillmon with 40 seconds remaining put Michigan up by four, but again Nebraska answered.

The game came down to free throws in the closing minute as Johnson showed her senior leadership, making both her shots with nine seconds left and sealing the Michigan win.

U-M will wrap up its two-game homestand Sunday (Jan. 10), hosting Illinois at Crisler Center. The game is set for 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on Big Ten Network Plus.
