A traffic stop late Sunday night led to the arrest of three people and the discovery of thousands of suspected oxycodone pills and a total of 14 pounds of methamphetamine.
Rochester police conducted a traffic stop about 10:40 p.m. Sunday in the area of 16th Street Southwest and Greenview Drive after seeing a vehicle failing to signal a lane change and drifting in its lane of travel.
The driver, identified as 47-year-old Matthew Lyman of Mantorville, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. A subsequent search of the vehicle located approximately 5 pounds of meth as well as several thousand suspected oxycodone pills and two handguns -- one of which was stolen, according to Rochester Police Capt. Casey Moilanen.
Lyman is charged in Olmsted County District Court with four felony counts of first-degree controlled substance crime as well as felony charges of fifth-degree controlled substance crime and receiving stolen property. He was also charged with gross misdemeanor traffic-DWI.
A search warrant was also obtained for a residence in the 2100 block of 18½ Avenue Northwest on the belief that Lyman had additional meth stored at that residence, Moilanen said.
Inside the residence, officers reportedly found 9 pounds of meth. The homeowners, identified by police as Douglas Howard, 57, and Ann Jessen-Ford, 57, were arrested on suspicion of first-degree controlled substance crime.
The investigation is ongoing, but Moilanen said the packaging of the drugs was indicative of coming from a cartel.
