June gets off to a hot start - Minnesota Public Radio News

Temperatures warm throughout the week, with much of Minnesota seeing chances at highs near 90 by the weekend.  Meanwhile, rain prospects stay limited and mostly sunny skies prevail.

Memorial Day forecast

Minnesota started off Monday with seasonable temperatures in the 40s north and 50s south.

Ahead of a cold front that is still passing through Minnesota as of Monday morning, the state saw a few showers and storms Sunday, and the eastern edge of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, stayed cooler under more cloud cover.

That front is still bringing a few isolated showers to the Arrowhead Monday morning, and could bring scattered showers and storms to the very eastern edge of Minnesota through the afternoon and evening.

However, the majority of the state will be in the drier air and under mostly sunny skies. That sunshine puts highs right near average for the end of May, with almost the entire state in the 70s.

Extended forecast

Those average temperatures do not last for long, because with a quieter and mostly sunny pattern expected in the week ahead, the heat returns.

Highs and lows climb through the week, and by the coming weekend, much of the state can expect lows in the 60s and highs near 90.

This is an outlook for Brainerd, but even as far north as International Falls may see 90 late week:

The humidity stays comfortable most of the week, but then that too is likely to slowly rise by the weekend, making the weather both hot and sticky.

Meanwhile, precipitation chances stay limited. Another disturbance brings western Minnesota spotty shower or storm chances Tuesday, and all of the state has a slight chance to see very isolated activity Wednesday.

However, there are no major storms on the horizon through the end of the week, and as mentioned previously, mostly sunny skies dominate the forecast.
