There is a new store at New Trier High School offering students hands-on, real-world employment opportunities while serving as a one-stop shop for Trevian gear.

The One Stop Trev Shop serves as an authentic center for extended learning, providing students with the chance to develop employability and entrepreneurial skills. Profits earned from the shop are reinvested into the store and fund the employment of student workers, according to a press release from the school.

One Stop Trev Shop is located at the Winnetka Campus and is currently only open to students and staff during adviser and lunch periods. The shop also has a website for online sales.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide this opportunity for New Trier students to have paid jobs and gain employability skills and job experience,” Career Services Coordinator Melissa Duffy said in the release. “This is just the beginning, and we look forward to formulating more partnerships as we work toward expanding and growing in the future.”

Community Garage Sale set for Saturday at Mallinckrodt

The Wilmette Park District’s yearly tradition, the Community Garage Sale, has moved to a new location this spring at the Mallinckrodt Community Center parking lot located 1041A Ridge Road. Stop by from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, and see what you can find.

Shoppers can park in the St. Joseph’s parking lot off of Ridge Road, and walk across the street to shop the sale. Parking is not available at Mallinckrodt because the lot will be filled with more than 40 vendors selling their gently-used goods, said Marlon Rodas, the district’s marketing manager.

There will also be a Food and Coat Drive running at the sale. Drop-off a gently-used winter coat or non-perishable food item at the table, and you will be entered into the prize raffle for a chance to win a 2021 Gillson Beach Season Pass, Rodas added.

Shoppers are urged to bring a mask if social distancing can’t be maintained at the event.

Township trustees inaugurated at outdoor ceremony

New Trier Township’s Board of Trustees were inaugurated at a brief ceremony on May 16 outside the township hall in Winnetka, as the building is still closed due to fire damage.

Outgoing Supervisor Alan Goldberg was recognized by the board with the renaming of the board/community room in his honor. Goldberg, of Wilmette, served the township in various capacities since 1997, according to a press release.

Those sworn in include: Gail Schnitzer Eisenberg as supervisor, Nicole Capretta as clerk and Danielle Ruben as trustee. Assessor Jan Churchwell and Trustees Stefan Mozer and John Thomas were also inducted for another four-year term. Trustee Elliott Robbins will be sworn in at the May 25 board meeting, per the release.
