BAY POINT — Firefighters have stopped a pair of grass fires that spurred California Highway Patrol officers to issue a traffic alert Monday, authorities said.
Just after 3 p.m., the CHP learned of the fire on the right-hand side of eastbound lanes of HIghway 4 just west of San Marco Road.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters responded, as did CalFire resources who estimated the fires at about 4 acres in size. There were no reports of injuries.
As smoke from the fires spread across the roadway’s right-hand lanes, the CHP issued a Sig-alert at 3:52 p.m. Drivers in the area were advised to use caution and avoid the area if possible. There was no estimated time of reopening the closed lanes.
Check back for updates.
