Relive Brad Keselowski’s Coca-Cola 600 win after Chase Elliott’s late pit stop - FOXSports.com

For the second race in a row, Chase Elliott’s night came to a heartbreaking end, as Brad Keselowski seized a surprising win in the 2020 Coca-Cola 600.

Just days after his Toyota 500 at Darlington came to an ignoble end when he was wrecked by Kyle Busch in the late laps, Elliott surged into the lead in Stage 4 of the Coca-Cola 600, and he looked to all but have the race won.

But when his teammate, William Byron, caused a caution with just two laps to go, Elliott’s team chose pit while others stayed out, pushing Keselowski back into the lead — and to the win — in NASCAR’s longest ever race.

Elliott, meanwhile, finished third.

After the race, Busch, who finished fifth, appeared to console Elliott in a classy gesture:

Elliott’s initial move to the front came after Alex Bowman was the story for most of the race, dominating early and making a fantastic save in Stage 3.

After starting 12th and taking just two tires during a pit stop, Bowman led 142 of the initial 202 laps.

Unfortunately for the No. 88 driver, only 3 of the past 12 leaders at the halfway point of the Coca-Cola 600 have gone on to win the race. And in Stage 3, Bowman had issues with cords showing on one of his tires, causing some looseness that forced Bowman off the lead.

At the end of the penultimate stage, Joey Logano was at the front of the pack, but a certain wily veteran loomed — with Bowman himself was still in contention:

Instead, it looked like Elliott was headed to victory lane until the chaotic end. It’s quite a bit of bad luck for Elliott for the second week in a row, who was also in contention before that aforementioned wreck caused by Busch this past week at Darlington.

Speaking of which, NASCAR rolled into Charlotte on Sunday after two races at the track that’s “Too Tough To Tame” … only for a little inclement weather to force a red flag and a 68-minute stoppage in the race. But once we got back to racing, things heated up.

For Clint Bowyer, that was literally the case, as he ended up going into the wall in a shower of sparks due to an issue with one of his right side wheels. He was okay, though:

As for the rain delay, the break gave us a chance to catch up with Matt Kenseth, who talked about his awesome Metallica mask and named his favorite song by the metal band (well, sort of; he cheated, but his answer is correct, so we’ll forgive him):

The Coca-Cola 600, which was the third race back since NASCAR’s two-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was the first race to feature qualifying since the Cup Series’ return; 2017 Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch took the pole:

“By .009 second, Kurt Busch steals the pole from Jimmie Johnson.”

Once the order was set, it was time to start those engines. And on this Memorial Day weekend, as NASCAR honored those who serve, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff gave the command:

And before the race, we remembered those who have made the ultimate sacrifice:
