As US sports leagues look for creative solutions to starting back up operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the NFL hopes they can resume business as usual in the coming months. According to a report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the league is planning to release a full 17-game schedule next week and league spokesman Brian McCarthy was quoted saying, "We plan to start on time."
The league is hoping to be able to launch the season at their planned September 10th date. Should the coronavirus pandemic get worse over time, the league does have contingency plans in place, the main one at this point is delaying the start of the season until October. The league is still in constant talks over a rapidly evolving situation but at this point, neutral sites can't definitely be ruled out, as the league has maintained they are not interested in taking that route.
At this point, the league is still exploring the idea of virtual workouts and minicamps, as they also agreed with the NFLPA to not open up any team facilities until every state in which a team resides lifts its stay-at-home mandate. With the full 2020 schedule coming out with a September 10th start, Super Bowl LV is still slated for February 7th.
The Bears unveiled jersey numbers their 2020 draft class on Saturday, and TE Cole Kmet and CB Jaylon Johnson will rock some iconic digits in 2020.
WR Darnell Mooney — 11 (fifth round)
CB Jaylon Johnson — 33 (second round)
CB Kindle Vildor — 46 (fifth round)
OT Arlington Hambright — 71 (seventh round)
OL Lachavious Simmons — 73 (seventh round)
TE Cole Kmet — 85 (second round)
EDGE Trevis Gipson — 99 (fifth round)

Kmet, a Lake Barrington native, going with 85 is a nice nod to the last Bears championship team — coached by another tight end in Mike Ditka.
Johnson is the second Bears cornerback in recent memory to rock No. 33. Charles Tillman, a second-round pick himself, wore the number with the Bears from 2003-14.RELATED: Bears position battles come into focus on 90-man roster

The #Bears are declining the fifth-year option on QB Mitch Trubisky, source said.
The team has liked Trubisky’s attitude since the Nick Foles trade and it’ll be an open competition. A chance for Trubisky to make himself a lot of money before his contract expires next March.

The #Bears didn’t pick up the fifth-year option on Kyle Fuller, who earned an extension and made the Pro Bowl in Year 5. They picked up the fifth-year option on Leonard Floyd, who was released before Year 5. All about how Trubisky -- a 2018 Pro Bowl pick -- produces from here. https://t.co/3vPMMx6VoV

That means Trubisky is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2020 season. Were the Bears to have picked up the option, they'd be paying the quarterback over $24 million next season – though guaranteed for injury only. Going into his fourth season with the Bears, this summer's training camp will be the first time Trubisky has to compete for the starting job. When the Bears' traded a fourth round pick to Jacksonville for Nick Foles, Matt Nagy told reporters that it was a "true competition," though many already consider the job Foles' to lose.
Interestingly enough, of the decision now means that four of the top five draft picks from the 2017 NFL Draft had their fifth year declined. Cleveland opted into Myles Garrett's, but Trubisky, Solomon Thomas, Leonard Fournette, and Corey Davis all had theirs declined. What does the decision mean for the future of Trubisky and the Bears? Insider J.J. Stankevitz breaks it all down right here.
