A high-risk traffic stop along northbound Highway 101 in Thousand Oaks was playing out Saturday night near the Ventu Park Road exit.

As of 9:35 p.m., Ventura County sheriff's deputies and firefighters were assisting the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP pursuit started in Los Angeles County, with the CHP requesting assistance from Ventura County authorities as the pursuit reached Calabasas, a sheriff's official said. The sheriff's agency dispatched deputies and a K-9 police dog to the site. Multiple fire units staged nearby in case of any injuries.

The vehicle had pulled over, but a male occupant was reportedly throwing flares out of the car, officials said.

Northbound traffic on the 101 was backed up south of Ventu Park Road.

As of 10 p.m., the person or people were still in the vehicle, reports from the scene indicated. Sheriff's negotiators at the scene were trying to negotiate with a male occupant, officials said.

No other information was immediately available.
