New federal interest rates Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to hold a press conference Wednesday -- during which new interest rates will be announced. It's sure to be interesting, as the Fed has previously kept the rates at zero, despite clamoring from economists to take them into the negatives. Eid al-Adha begins One of the most important Islamic holidays, Eid al-Adha begins Thursday evening, commemorating Ibrahim's loyalty and obedience to God, when He commended him to sacrifice his son. With the pandemic, though, the holiday may look different this year than in previous ones, typically marked with family gatherings. A day to celebrate your friends First proclaimed by the United Nations, Thursday marks the International Day of Friendship. Though it's a strange time to celebrate, since the gathering of friends is largely discouraged at the moment, it's still a great time to show your friends you love them -- even in a pandemic. CARES Act set to expire Though Congress is in the midst of negotiating another stimulus package, the CARES Act -- which allotted $600 weekly to unemployment benefits during the pandemic -- is set to expire Friday. Millions remain out of work and as the pandemic worsens in the US, that money is needed now more than ever.
