The Cubs recalled right-hander Adbert Alzolay from their alternate training site and he will start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals.
Alzolay, 25, made four big league appearances last season, including two starts. He pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-hit, one-run ball against the Braves on June 25, 2019, walking and striking out four. On July 1, 2019 against the Pirates, he allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Alzolay will serve as the Cubs' 29th man for the doubleheader.

Cubs manager David Ross said Tuesday that Alzolay was "in the mix" to start one of the doubleheader games. Alec Mills will start in Game 1 against Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty.
For the first time since opening weekend, all 30 Major League Baseball teams will be in action on Wednesday. The Reds, who had a player test positive for COVID-19 recently, had two of their games last weekend postponed.
The Dodgers have maintained their tight grip atop the NL West, as have the Yankees in the AL East despite several injuries. The Cubs and Twins have encountered recent skids but still hold firm atop the NL and AL Central.
Out west, the Astros, Rangers and Diamondbacks have begun emerging from slow starts, while early surprises in the Tigers and Marlins have slipped back in the pack.
Some teams’ schedules haven’t been impacted by COVID-19-related reasons, while doubleheaders will become the norm for others going forward, like the Cardinals.
