This Friday traffic along I-90 in Southern and Southeastern Minnesota might be a little heavier than normal. One of the reasons those traveling along I-90 might see more traffic than normal is that the American Truckers Freedom Convoy is expected to roll through Southern Minnesota and stop for an hour at the Petro Travel Center from 1-2pm in Albert Lea.
The website, GreatAmericanPatriotProject.org, is helping to organize the American Truckers Freedom Convoy, which is expected to travel all the way to Washington D.C. to protest COVID-19 mandates.
The convoy that will make its way through Southern Minnesota is coming all the way from Washington State, and that ride begins tomorrow morning according to the website.
Central Minnesota will also get a stop from the American Truckers Freedom Convoy, that convoy will start in North Dakota, and go through Sauk Center this week.
This convoy, according to another popular convoy, The People's Convoy, isn't connected in any way, however, both are expected to end in Washington D.C. around the same time.
So what can you expect to see Friday, when the group plans to stop at the truck stop in Albert Lea?
There might be some speaking being done, but in general is just a chance for the drivers to take a break from the road, get something to eat, and refuel before taking off again towards their end goal of meeting up with another group in Wisconsin by 5pm.
Should you choose to attend, the general idea would be to join the convoy from the back, and not to try and enter the convoy in the middle or at the front. Follow all traffic laws, and any instructions from law enforcement who may be in attendance to monitor traffic safety/keeping vehicles moving.
