Tim Tebow and company love coming to Starkville.
STARKVILLE – Tim Tebow can't hide his excitement.
The former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner – now a part of the SEC Nation team that'll broadcast live from The Junction on Saturday before No. 23 Mississippi State hosts Arkansas – is thrilled to be back on the campus of MSU. And he insists, he's not alone in that opinion.
"I think probably if you ask most of the crew, you'd probably see it's one of our favorite places – if not our favorite place to come," Tebow said Friday afternoon. "We just love it."
Tebow was one of three members of the SEC Network's traveling pregame show who met with reporters on the eve of the upcoming tilt between the Bulldogs and Razorbacks. All echoed Tebow's sentiments.
"I love it – are you kidding?" another former SEC quarterback, Jordan Rodgers said as he took in the scene around Davis Wade Stadium. "As soon as this one came back on the map [I was excited]. I wasn't a full-time member of the SEC Nation crew [the last time it was here], but the environment was unbelievable."
Added former Alabama defensive back and NFL Pro Bowler Roman Harper: "It's going to be loud."
You bet it will be.
Not only do State fans have the chance to jam The Junction for the Marty & McGee show at 8 a.m. immediately followed by SEC Nation at 9 a.m., but the Maroon and White faithful will also be amped up for a Bulldog team that's growing with each passing week.
Tebow, Rodgers and Harper see Mississippi State as a team with incredible strengths all over the field.
There's Bulldog quarterback Will Rogers, who's made 300-plus yard passing games commonplace and become masterful at running head coach Mike Leach's Air Raid offense.
"It's not the system that's producing [Rogers'] success," Rodgers said. "His success is making the system even better."
Tebow sees State's signal caller as a guy that knows things before they happen, among many other talents.
"I think he probably has some of the best anticipation in the SEC and around the country," Tebow said. "He's really gifted in that area.
"I like his courage in the pocket. I like his anticipation. He's tough – mentally, physically. I really like all those things and think they stand out watching his game."
While Rogers of course orchestrates the MSU offensive attack, on the defensive side the Bulldogs are led in part by reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week and Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, cornerback Emmanuel Forbes.
"He's a top-tier corner and he'll be playing on Sundays and be a day-one starter," Harper said of Forbes. "It's been really impressive to watch his career continue to grow. I'm a big fan of his."
Collectively, the Bulldogs have also impressed the SEC Nation team.
From coordinator Zach Arnett's Bulldog defense…
"It's just so tough," Rodgers said. "I'd hate to play against it because he's going to give you so many different looks.
"[Arnett] throws so much at you and he's so multiple…that as a quarterback it speeds things up and you don't want that as a quarterback."
To Leach's Air Raid offense that – this year – is showing it can also be a ground threat...
"I think what's taken [the offense] to the next level is his willingness to now implement more of the running game when [opponents] are playing the 38 double cloud defenses and three-man fronts," Tebow said. "They've continued to adjust, and it's been really fun to see what Coach Leach has done with that."
Leach and the Bulldogs will get back to work on Saturday morning, looking for a third straight win. Tebow and friends will have their own jobs to do on Saturday, too. And they're pumped to have such an electric office.
"It's one of the most underrated places, I think, in the country," Tebow said of Mississippi State. "It's way louder than a bunch of other schools."
