If you subject yourself to reading and watching the legacy media, you might think former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) have been spreading baseless antisemitic conspiracy theories lately.
That's the media narrative as liberal journalists downplay the connection between George Soros’s money and Alvin Bragg 's position as New York County district attorney.
LIBERAL JOURNALISTS TRY TO MAKE SOROS'S MILLIONS A VERBOTEN TOPIC
While Trump, DeSantis, and other Republicans are angry that the liberal district attorney indicted the former president, the media and Soros himself claim there is no connection between the Hungarian megadonor and the liberal elected official. They need to stop lying to the public.
Business Insider published a story titled , "George Soros says he never contributed to Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg despite antisemitic claims on the right." USA Today ran with the headline, "Donald Trump using antisemitic rhetoric to get political donations after indictment." And Yahoo News had a story titled , "Trump, DeSantis and other Republicans push antisemitic 'Soros' smear after Bragg indictment."
So what did Trump and DeSantis say that was so bad? Nothing, actually.
DeSantis said Bragg weaponized the political system and noted the Bragg-Soros connection.
"The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head," DeSantis tweeted . "It is un-American. The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent. Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda."
And Trump posted about how Soros's money benefited Bragg in 2022.
“Just Out: District Attorney Alvin Bragg received in EXCESS OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS from Radical Left Enemy of 'TRUMP,' George Soros,” Trump posted on Truth Social last month.
While Trump is wrong about the dollar amount, the sentiment from these two conservative politicians is correct.
Due to campaign finance law constraints, most of Soros's political donations go to political action committees. Soros donated $1 million to Color of Change in 2021, a PAC that supported Bragg. It is an exaggeration to say that all of the money Soros donated to the PAC went toward supporting one candidate. However, there is nothing wrong with pointing out the Soros connection.
Additionally, the Open Society Policy Center donated $7 million to the 501(c)(4) arm of the Color of Change in 2020. Given that Soros founded Open Society Foundations, a link exists between him and the political action committee that supports these woke district attorney candidates.
Soros is a Democrat who supports soft-on-crime politicians who will lead to increased crime in cities. As crime rises across the United States, Trump allegedly having sex with a porn actress nearly 20 years ago should be less pertinent than murders and robberies occurring in the biggest city in America.
Whether or not Soros knows the district attorney personally is irrelevant. Bragg is the type of politician Soros likes — and Bragg benefited from the megadonor’s money.
If only the legacy media could be honest with readers and admit politicians such as Trump and DeSantis have a point.
