JOLIET, IL — Two young men from Joliet are now lodged in the Will County Jail after Joliet police seized loaded guns from them following a traffic stop Sunday night on Black Road, reports show. Jeremy Cook, 28, and Sonjre Childs, 27, of Joliet, have each been charged by Joliet police with the following crimes: aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a gun by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of ammunition.

A third person in their car, a 28-year-old Joliet man, was cited for unlawful cannabis possession and released from Joliet police custody on an I-bond.

Joliet police cars were running radar shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday night and that's when officers clocked a vehicle on Black Road near Junie Court traveling more than 10 mph above the posted limit, police reports show.

Police stopped the car near Westminster Street and Adren Place. According to police, the inside of the car had a strong smell of marijuana. Officers searched the car and all the occupants following the traffic stop and "a loaded firearm was located inside a backpack in the vehicle near the driver," reports show.

Additionally, "as officers searched Childs, they located a loaded firearm in front of his pants," police reports show.

Childs lives in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue while Cook lives in the 300 block of Wilcox Street, Will County Jail logs show. Both men were slated to appear before a Will County judge on Monday for their bail hearings.
