Saturday update: The Chiefs-Patriots game is being moved to another date due to positive Covid-19 tests. At this point, the NFL wants to be able to keep the game played within Week 4, but that isn’t assured. Hopefully we will know more by the time you need to lock your rosters in, but if not, you may consider sitting players from this matchup.
It should come as no surprise that Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is off to a booming start to his NFL career. A first-round pick in this year’s draft, CEH has carved out an essential role in one of the league’s most productive offenses. He’s also become a must-start player in fantasy football, but what about this week with a tough matchup against New England?
CEH got off to a great start this season, running for 138 yards and a touchdown against Houston in the opener. He wasn’t as effective in a Week 2 nail-biter against the Chargers, rushing for just 38 yards and adding 32 receiving yards. He had a better game in Week 3 against the Ravens, carrying the ball 20 times for 64 yards and catching five passes 70 yards.
He still hasn’t found the end zone since the first week, but that’s bound to change at some point. It’s worth noting that the Patriots have allowed two touchdowns to running backs this season, one rushing and one receiving. They’ve also given up 280 yards on the ground over their last two games.
It’s definitely not the most favorable matchup for CEH, but the Chiefs have so many offensive weapons, it’ll be hard for the Patriots defense to key in on the rookie running back exclusively. And he’s too vital to that offense to leave on your bench in fantasy.
