More than 75 people gathered on the Capitol steps in Harrisburg in what activist and organizer Scott Presler said was non-partisan rally for a fair election.
While most were enthusiastic supporters of President Donald Trump, they all said they were concerned that the election was being stolen in Pennsylvania, although no evidence has been presented by the Trump campaign about any widespread voter fraud.
The “Stop the Steal” rally started at noon today on the Capitol steps. This was the second consecutive day for the gathering. “Stop the Steal” rallies are being planned for noon tomorrow at all state capitols across the nation, according to social media.
The Stop the Steal Facebook group was created Wednesday, the day after the election, with a goal of supporting Trump’s false claims of election fraud. It quickly became a hub of misinformation about the election, and was eventually shut down by Facebook for trying to incite violence, the New York Times reported.
At yesterday’s rally, U.S. Rep. Scott Perry told the crowd, “We’re not asking for much. We want the ballots and the votes that are counted to be legal, to be valid. We want to them to have been sent and have a postmark on them on or before Election Day. Not after Election Day.”
There was no clear winner after Tuesday’s Election, and mail-in ballots are still being counted. Pennsylvania, a battleground state, continued to count mail-in ballots through Friday, and the outcome could determine who is the next President of the United States.
Those who attended the rally were concerned about the legitimacy of many of those mail-in votes. No proof has been presented that any widespread fraud occurred that could have affected the election.
At yesterday’s rally, Presler told the crowd, “This is not a rally supporting a particular candidate. This is a rally fighting for two things. Truth and justice."
“We are here in Pennsylvania to ensure that every legal vote is counted,” Presler said, stressing the word “legal.”
