LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team released its 2021 schedule Tuesday and is slated to start competition January 9.
The campaign features five tri-matches, three on the VMI Post in Cormack Hall. The Keydets host Bloomsburg University and Sacred Heart University on January 9 starting at noon. The Southern Conference slate opens the next weekend as Campbell University and Presbyterian College come to town. After road tri-meets at Davidson College (N.C.) and Gardner-Webb University (N.C.), VMI closes out the regular season at home February 5 against Appalachian State and The Citadel. Appalachian State will host the SoCon Championships on Feb. 28.
"The conference head coaches voted to move forward with a tri-meet schedule on a rotating basis, we all felt this would maximize our conference competition given the shortened competitive season," said VMI head coach Jim Gibson. "Also, allowing for some out of conference dates as well."
"There is a lot of eagerness floating around our wrestling room right now. Guys are ready to step on the mat and square off."
