(Champlain Valley, Vermont) — Champlain Valley Head Start announces its free Home-Visiting Head Start Program designed to support those experiencing pregnancy in the Champlain Valley. The currently virtual program provides comprehensive support for pregnant parents. Low-income residents of Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle Counties who are pregnant are eligible to apply. Anyone may apply online at https://champlainvalleyheadstart.org/apply-now/, or inquire via phone or email at 802-752-9397 and [email protected].
Champlain Valley Head Start’s experienced team tailors the program to each pregnant parent’s individual needs. Some of the support provided includes health support and education (on topics such as fetal growth and development, breastfeeding, nutrition, delivery options, and postpartum care), service support (with connections to medical, dental, housing, and education resources), infant care, and childcare (preschool, day care, and playgroups).
Families who enroll in the Home-Visiting Program during pregnancy are automatically enrolled in its Early Head Start Home-Visiting Program upon the birth of their child. This program supports early child development in the home for children up to 3 years old.
“Champlain Valley Head Start provides high-quality programs to help families succeed. As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, this support is more crucial than ever,” said Paul Behrman, program director of Champlain Valley Head Start. “Supporting pregnant parents allows us to build relationships with children from the time they are born, connecting families to important community services that will enhance childhood development and assist the family as a whole.”
Samantha Paine, a Head Start parent, adds: “Having the support of the Head Start Home-Visiting Program was extremely helpful. I was able to find the supports I needed for my whole family. My home visitor found and directed me to the resources I needed, so I could focus on my pregnancy and family obligations. This wasn’t my first pregnancy, and I still found it very helpful to have a person to ask questions of, or bounce concerns off of, before and after my child was born. It’s like having a central support hub, available via phone, text, or email, all the time. This, coupled with their direct support with hands-on activities and entertainment at home for all of my kids, safely, during a pandemic, I’m so glad I had the opportunity to participate.”
Champlain Valley Head Start is committed to protecting the health and safety of children, families, and staff. The Home-Visiting Head Start Program is conducted online and through socially-distanced in-person visits. Champlain Valley Head Start is adhering to all Covid-19 safety guidelines.
