PORTAGE (WKOW) -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrested two people in Portage after authorities say they tried to run away during a traffic stop.
A Columbia County Sergeant pulled a car over on the 300 block of E. Edgewater Street around 1 a.m. Sunday.
According to the Sergeant, shortly after stopping the car, it sped away. It then slowed down to let the passenger out. She ran away and the car drove off again.
Authorities report the car then got stuck in a snow bank, where the driver got out and ran away.
After a short chase, law enforcement took the driver into custody.
Officials said they looked for the passenger for about an hour and a half and found her hiding at a home nearby. That's where they arrested her.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office reported the driver was, Nicholas Sanger, 34, of Madison and the passenger was Ashley Lenius, 33, of Sun Prairie.
Authorities said Sanger was arrested and charged with felony eluding, OWI 5th offense, resisting arrest, operating after revocation, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a two-year-old outstanding probation/parole warrant.
Officials said Lenius ran to avoid a child support warrant and was taken into custody on that warrant.
The sheriff's office said both Sanger and Lenius are at the Columbia County jail, waiting to appear in court.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is also thanking members of the public who provided law enforcement information about the suspect’s whereabouts.
