FREMONT — Police said officers had fired their weapons and had closed streets during a search for a possibly armed person in an industrial area on the city’s west side.
Few details were immediately available, but a police department spokeswoman said officers were closing streets near Stevenson Boulevard and Boyce Road after attempting a traffic stop for a vehicle, when the occupants jumped out and fled on foot.
Officers with Newark police and the California Highway Patrol were also assisting with the search, and anyone in the area who sees a suspicious person should not engage, but should call 911 to reach a dispatcher.
In a separate alert around 7 p.m., Newark police alerted residents to avoid Stevenson at Cherry Street, and suggested Mowry Avenue as an alternative route.
Check back for updates.
