A Beach Park man who was stopped by police for driving recklessly allegedly pulled a gun out and quickly approached a home before being tased by Lake County sheriff’s deputies on Monday.
Quentin Newbrey, 34, of the 38700 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm, possessing a firearm while not being eligible for FOID, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
A Lake County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol in the area of Sheridan Road south of Wadsworth Road in Beach Park around 7 p.m. Monday.
Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Lt. Christopher Covelli said that the deputy observed the vehicle driving in a reckless manner as it pulled into the Beach Mobile Home Park.
The driver was speeding, weaving between vehicles and drove over a curb.
The deputy pulled into the mobile home park to conduct a traffic stop and the driver of the vehicle, Newbrey, parked and exited his vehicle.
Newbrey was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and quickly approached the front door of a mobile home, Covelli said.
The sheriff’s deputy gave instructions for Newbrey to drop the pistol, which he did. After dropping the firearm, Newbrey did not listen to the deputy’s commands, Covelli said.
He pulled his pants down and began to urinate on the side of the mobile home, ignoring the deputy’s instructions.
The sheriff’s deputy used his taser on Newbrey and was able to take him into custody.
Newbrey was uninjured and was transported to the Lake County Jail where he resisted correctional officers and was pepper-sprayed.
Newbrey remains held in the Lake County Jail on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court next on May 20.
