Phillies skip Spencer Howard's start in the rotation - NBC Sports

paksijenong.blogspot.com

With three off-days between June 17 and June 24, the Phillies adjusted their starting rotation for the week ahead.

Spencer Howard, who arrived as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball but has underwhelmed in 10 career starts, was supposed to go Sunday against the Giants. His turn will be skipped and Zach Eflin will start the series finale.

The Phillies are off Monday. Zack Wheeler will start Tuesday at home against the Nationals. Vince Velasquez goes Wednesday.

The Phillies are off Thursday, then play a doubleheader at Citi Field on Friday, the first two of four games against the division-leading Mets. Aaron Nola, who allowed six runs in 2⅓ innings Saturday, would be on turn to start one of the games. In the other game, the Phillies could start Eflin on regular rest, start Howard or have a bullpen game.

The Phillies have a makeup game in Cincinnati the Monday after that four-game series. Beginning June 25, the Phils play every day until the All-Star break and have 18 games in 17 days.
