CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The start of Tuesday’s game between the Indians and Tigers at Progressive Field has been delayed by rain.
The game was minutes away from starting -- the national anthem had already been sung and the starting pitchers had thrown their warm up pitches -- when the tarp was pulled and the field covered.
Rookie right-hander J.C. Mejia is scheduled to face Detroit right-hander Jose Urena. Mejia is coming off his best start in the big leagues, a six-inning performance against the Twins on Friday at Target Field. He allowed one run on four hits in a no-decision. The Indians won the game, 4-1, with a three-run eighth inning.
This will be Urena’s third start against the Indians this year.
He’s 0-1 with a 1.74 ERA against them. Urena has allowed two runs on six hits in 10 1/3 innings in his first two starts against the Indians. He’s struck out six and walked eight.
The Indians are 8-3 against the Tigers this season.
