Starting off the event for Wheeling was sophomore Ethan Banks as he competed in the Men's 200-meter freestyle. He finished third in the field with a time of 2:15.94, for a strong start on the day. Banks competed on two more events on the day, the 400-meter freestyle and the 100-meter Intermediate. His best performance came in the 400-meter freestyle where he finished second with a time of 4:38.22. He came in just eight seconds behind Frostburg's Nate Canapp, for his best finish of the day.
Wheeling's other swimmer, Nathan Yost, also competed in three events on the day and finished with three third-place finishes. He began his day with the 100-meter Butterfly and placed third with a time of 1:05.14. He then moved to the 100-meter backstroke where he finished with a 1:08.68 and finished the afternoon in the 50-meter Butterfly where he finished in 28.91. Both swimmers now have baselines to build off of the rest of the way, and will continue to try and improve the rest of the season.
Wheeling fell in the team scoring to Frostburg State 170-19 on the day. With only two swimmers on the team, Wheeling still has room to grow and improve throughout the season. These two swimmers are the foundation of the new program that head coach Daniel Murphy is trying to build, and look to move the program forward this season.
The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team is off next week but returns to action on October 16th when they head to Malone University.
