A little rain can't stop Pitman's homecoming - The Turlock Journal

Rain drops and some gloomy weather couldn’t stop Pitman High School from hosting its annual homecoming parade on Friday. Students, teachers and faculty surrounded the center of campus as they watched clubs, athletes and homecoming nominees wave to the crowd.

Local judges were selected to score the club and class floats and the winner was announced at the football game against Modesto High School that night.

Grand Marshall, varsity football coach Eric Reza, led the football team to kick off the parade. They were followed by the Pride color guard, band and cheerleaders.

Homecoming nominees made a tour of the parade. This year’s court nominees are: Alexxa Olvera and Evan Kiely, Anyssa Fernandez and Julian Rosales, April Vaca-Sotelo and Juan Ramirez, Ava Lawson and Kyle Pruitt, Bella Kern and Franky Carbajal, Brook Nunes and Mario Ammari, Vanessa Arias and Kai Bravo and Yori Lightner and Cannella.

the FFA Club was one of many school clubs to have a float in Friday’s homecoming parade (PAWAN NAIDU/The Journal).

Club floats included those from FFA, SAVE Club, Key Club, the Pitman International Student Association and the Hispanic Youth Leadership Council, to name a few.

Class floats this year were decade themed. The freshman float was inspired by the19 80s because they say it was the “best decade.” The sophomore float went back in time to the 1950s and a retro diner. The juniors float was a classic 1960s beach musical. And the senior float embodied a 1970s disco with a dance floor, DJ and vinyl records.

“I love homecoming, everyone puts in a lot of work on the floats and everyone just has a good time,” said junior Kevin Bailey.

Students have been voting for their homecoming nominees and the winners were announced at the football game the same night.

“I’m excited for the game tonight, and I‘m excited to see who wins. Everyone’s great so it’s going to be awesome no matter who wins,” said sophomore Tiffany Tanner.
