MOUNTAIN PINE -- A traffic stop on a reportedly speeding car in Mountain Pine on Wednesday led to the arrest of the driver on felony charges after multiple guns and almost 6 ounces of marijuana were allegedly found in his possession.

Kendrick Cordell Jujuane Burris, 25, who lists a Mountain Pine Road address, was taken into custody shortly before 3 p.m. and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 10 years, and possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to six years.

Burris, who also had a warrant for failure to comply, was being held on a zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court. According to court records, he previously pleaded guilty on May 3, 2021, in Garland County to possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and was sentenced to one year of supervised probation and fined $960.

According to the probable cause affidavit, around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mountain Pine Police Cpl. Christopher Haynes was sitting at the police station in Mountain Pine, 405 Ouachita St., when he saw a gold four-door car drive toward him "at a high rate of speed" and signaled to the driver to slow down as the car passed him.

The car reportedly continued at the same speed and allegedly ran the stop sign at Fourth Avenue and Ouachita Street. Haynes got behind the vehicle as it turned onto Third Avenue headed toward Main Avenue and used his lights to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Main Avenue and Blakely Dam Road in a restaurant parking lot.

Haynes and Mountain Pine Police Chief Joshua Jester, who had arrived to assist, approached the car and made contact with the driver, identified as Burris, who was on the phone with his girlfriend. Haynes explained he stopped him for running the stop sign and asked for his license and registration.

Burris reportedly continued talking on the phone while searching for his documentation and Jester noticed an AR-15 style rifle covered up in the back seat. Haynes also noted a "strong skunky odor" of marijuana coming from the driver's side window so they had Burris step out of the vehicle.

Dispatch then notified the officers Burris had a possible warrant for failure to comply so he was detained at that time.

Asked if he had anything in the car they needed to know about, Burris said he had some marijuana, but he also had a medical marijuana card. He showed Haynes his card on his phone and Haynes noted it had expired so he told Burris they would have to take possession of the marijuana and he complied.

As the officers began to inventory the vehicle, they allegedly found 136.6 grams of marijuana in an "air sealed bag," 25.7 grams in a green container and 3.6 grams "rolled up inside a brown cigar." The total amount of marijuana was 165.9 grams, or 5.8 ounces. They also found a pipe with marijuana inside and a tray with marijuana seeds and stems.

They also allegedly found a fully loaded Ruger 9-mm handgun, a fully loaded Taurus 9-mm handgun, and a fully loaded PA-15 AR-style rifle. At that point, Burris was taken into custody without incident on the various felony charges.

Agents with the 18th Judicial District East Drug Task Force were notified and later assumed the investigation.
