A man who reportedly shot his girlfriend an unspecified number of days ago was shot by officers with the San Antonio Police Department after he attempted to flee during a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon, March 14, according to SAPD Chief William McManus.

According to a preliminary statement given by McManus at the scene, officers attempted a traffic stop with the man, who had a felony warrant in connection with allegedly hospitalizing his girlfriend in the previous incident, between 1:30 and 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The man, who had a female in the car, fled during the stop and was followed by police down Southcross Road, McManus said. The female, whose age was not provided, managed to exit the vehicle roughly a half mile from 5365 Southcross Ranch Road, San Antonio, TX 78222.

The man also exited the car and allegedly held a gun to his head before pointing it toward officers at the scene. Officers then fired at the man an unspecified number of times, McManus said. How many times he was struck by SAPD's bullets or if he fired any shots of his own was not immediately available.

The man was conscious and talking when he was taken to the hospital by ambulance and there is no word on his condition at this time. Officers are continuing to process the scene and the incident is still under police investigation.
