Donald Trump has hit out at his once beloved Fox News for using unflattering photos of him, including one of him looking “orange” and with his “chin pulled back”.
The former US president and 2024 candidate also accused the Right-wing cable network of failing to show polling data “where I am beating [Joe] Biden, by a lot”.
Mr Trump, 77, is known to be a regular viewer of the network’s flagship morning show, “Fox and Friends”.
Fox was one of Mr Trump’s biggest supporters in the US media during his presidency.
But his views on the network have soured since it took the lead in calling the crucial state of Arizona for Mr Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
On his Truth Social platform on Thursday he said: “Why doesn’t Fox and Friends show all of the polls where I am beating Biden, by a lot. They just won’t do it!
“Also, they purposely show the absolutely worst pictures of me, especially the big “orange” one with my chin pulled way back.
“They think they are getting away with something, they’re not. Just like 2016 all over again…And then they want me to debate!”
It is not the first time Mr Trump has complained about his appearance in the media.
‘They’ll say he was extremely wet’
Earlier this month, while bemoaning the lack of air conditioning at a campaign event in New Hampshire, he said: “You know what the press will say? They’ll say Trump didn’t look well. He was extremely wet. It is 104 or 105 degrees (40C) in here. But we’re OK with it, right?”
Fox News is hosting the first debate of the Republican presidential primary in Milwaukee next Wednesday evening.
Mr Trump is among eight candidates to have met the party’s polling and fundraising threshold, but has indicated he will not be attending.
Media analysts have speculated his absence will have a material impact on the debate’s viewing figures.
Fox executives are reportedly so eager to secure Mr Trump’s participation that the network’s chief executive, Suzanne Scott, and president Jay Wallace travelled to Bedminster to lobby him over it.
However, there is speculation Mr Trump is plotting some counter-programming to upstage his rivals on Wednesday night, either by doing an interview or a campaign event.
Mr Trump and Mr Biden are virtually tied in a hypothetical match-up, according to the latest poll by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday.
It found that 47 per cent supported Mr Biden and 46 per cent supported Mr Trump.
Biden will get us into a nuclear war, says Trump
On Thursday Mr Trump doubled down on his claims that the Georgia indictment is a “witch hunt” and urged Republicans to “get a lot tougher”.
Speaking about his indictments during an interview with Larry Kudlow on Fox Business, he said “I have four of them now… this is not even possible for over the next last couple of months. And frankly, it discredits everything, and they’re all very similar in the sense that there is no basis for them.”
He said: “It’s a disgraceful thing and Republicans can’t let them get away with it. Republicans have to be tough. The Republicans are great in many ways, but they don’t fight as hard for this stuff. And they have to get a lot tougher. And if they don’t, they’re not going to have much of a Republican Party.”
Mr Trump also made suggestions that Joe Biden does not have his faculties, saying: “He can’t put two sentences together. He doesn’t know where he is. He can’t walk up a flight of stairs, let alone down a flight of stairs”.
He added: “He can’t speak, he can’t walk... and he’s telling us about energy and he’s telling us about Russia and nuclear weapons. This guy is gonna get us into a nuclear war”.
