LIVERMORE — Firefighters were close to containment of a multi-acre grass fire northeast of the city in the Altamont hills, authorities said Sunday.
Just after 8:30 p.m., Alameda County Fire District firefighters responded to a reported vegetation fire in the 10840 block of Altamont Pass Road.
When firefighters arrived, they found about twenty acres in working fire slowly spreading under light but steady winds near the Altamont Landfill. CalFire called the blaze the Altamont Fire.
By 9:30 p.m., Alameda County Fire social-media posts credited assistance from Camp Parks and Livermore-Pleasanton fire department resources and said the fire was about 50 acres with 75 percent containment. Soon after, forward progress was stopped, with fire crews expected to remain on scene to mop up and prevent flare-ups.
There were no initial reports of any injuries or threatened structures.
