Two of the most exciting fantasy quarterbacks have each played on Thursday Night Football. If you didn’t play them, you might be in luck, as Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray scored 20.08 and 20.6 DraftKings points, respectively. For Week 11, we take quarterback matchups into account and provide some players with high upside and low floors with the potential to help or hurt your fantasy football teams this week.
Quarterback Starts
Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers vs. Jaguars
Returning from injury, Roethlisberger has been nothing short of fantastic in the 2020 season. He is currently posting a touchdown rate of 6.4 percent and is averaging 260 passing yards per game. His willingness to spread the ball and talented supporting cast has helped limit turnovers. Against a Jaguars defense that is allowing 23.7 fantasy points per game to QBs — the third-most in the NFL — with an average of 289 passing yards, 2.1 touchdowns and 0.8 INTs per game.
Alex Smith, Washington vs. Bengals
It’s Alex Smith’s second-straight week on the QB starts list, and for good reason. Smith is coming off of two back-to-back games of 300 or more passing yards and though his touchdown totals wouldn’t indicate, he’s looked poised even despite the lack of positional depth on the roster. The Bengals defense has allowed fewer than 200 passing yards just once on the season and have allowed three or more passing TDs in three of their last four outings. Smith is widely available if you’re in need of a sport start for Week 11.
Quarterback Sits
Tom Brady, Bucs vs. Rams
Brady’s first season with the Bucs has certainly had its peaks and valleys, but thankfully, their defense has kept them in contention as a top contender through the worst of times. At the ripened age of 43, Brady is on pace for 4,382 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. When he’s hot, he’s been hot, but he could be in for an uphill battle against the Rams, who held Russell Wilson to a 12 point outing in Week 10. Given the strength of these two defense, we may be in for a defensive battle. As such, I’m not looking to start Brady anywhere that I can avoid it in Week 11.
Matt Ryan, Falcons vs. Saints
As one of four Week 11 matchups with an over/under projected at 50 or more points, this should be an exciting matchup for a quarterback with two of the best wideouts in the NFL. However, fantasy managers should be weary before slotting Matt Ryan into their lineups as he returns from the bye. Though he ranks third in pass yards and sixth in pass attempts, the Saints defense is likely to present him with some challenges. Their team defense has allowed the third-fewest passing yards while tying for the fourth-fewest offensive yards per play. In two of their last four outings, Ryan failed to exceed 16 fantasy points, and in three of the four, did not exceed two touchdowns. There are other options with higher upside this week, especially if the Saints are less able to drive up the score and force garbage time.
