We are really starting the new year with a bang! A winter storm system looks to bring icy road conditions across 21 Country.
The problem with this warm storm system, is that it's below freezing here in Northeast Indiana. That warm air will overrun the cold meaning the precipitation will fall as rain, then freeze onto the road.
The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory for all our counties in our region. The main threat is the ice accumulation.
TIMING OF THE PRECIPITATION
A little after 7am this morning, flurries will start off the day.
By 10am this morning, freezing rain will start to fall all across Northeast Indiana. Freezing rain will continue throughout by mid afternoon.
We are expecting a decent amount of ice accumulation that could potentially not only provide slick road conditions but also potential power outages. To be on the safe side, make sure your electronics are all charged up.
Rain will start to transition into the region by late afternoon. This should improve road conditions. There could still be some slick spots.
WHAT THE REST OF OUR WEEKEND LOOKS LIKE:
Tomorrow is going to be relatively quiet. Mostly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 30s. Winter weather may be coming back Saturday night into Sunday morning. The impacts of this storm don't look impressive at the moment.
