Three people were charged with multiple felonies after Aurora police said an officer was beaten following a traffic stop late Monday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Monday, police said an Aurora police officer performed a traffic stop on a car that rolled through a stop sign near Plum Street and Randall Road.

The vehicle pulled into a driveway in the 600 block of North Elmwood Drive, and the driver began yelling obscenities out the window, police said. The officer also observed two other passengers in the car, according to police.

Police said the rear passenger exited the vehicle moments later and the officer ordered her back into the car several times before informing her that she was under arrest for obstructing, according to a police press release.

Before the woman was in custody, the driver also exited the car and started approaching the officer at the rear of the car, police said. The driver told the officer that he would fight him if he touched the woman, officials said.

The officer told the driver he was also under arrest for obstructing and the driver took off running, according to police.

The officer ran after the man as the two female passengers followed the officer, according to the release. The officer turned around and tried to grab one of the women’s arms to take her into custody, but she slipped out of his grip, police said.

The two females then began striking the officer with closed fists and kicking his body and head, police said. The officer said he heard a man’s voice and then was struck repeatedly in the head. The rear passenger placed her forearm around the officer’s neck and applied force, police said.

A short time later, additional officers arrived at the scene and placed the three people into custody, according to police. Aurora paramedics arrived and took the officer to a local hospital.

Jennifer Taylor, 24, of the 7100 block of South Paulina Street in Chicago, Sheba Taylor, 26, of the 2400 block of Fox Drive in Aurora, and Paul Sherrod, 28, of the 600 block of North Elmwood Drive in Aurora, were all charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated battery for strangulation, aggravated battery, resisting or obstructing a police officer causing injury and aggravated assault to a peace officer, Kane County court records show.

All three appeared in Kane County bond court Tuesday morning. Jennifer and Sheba Taylor’s bail was set at $50,000 and Sherrod’s bail was set at $75,000.
