As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a few days away from reporting to training camp, there is one last stop on their Super Bowl champions tour, our nations capital. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will welcome the Super Bowl 55 Champs to the White House for a Championship visit this Tuesday. This marks the first time since 2017 that the team who wins the biggest game in American sports will make the trip to see our Commander-in-Chief.
The visit will consist of players, coaches, GM Jason Licht and the Glazer family enjoying a celebratory lunch and press conference on the front courtyard. During the press conference, the team will present President Biden with a Buccaneers team jersey with his name stitched on the back with the number 46. The Buccaneers have not announced which players have declined to attend, but the Bucs should have close to perfect attendance.
The status on quarterback Tom Brady is reportedly up in the air, if his prior actions are any indication. Tom Brady has not attended a White House visit since 2005, when the President was George W. Bush. Brady skipped the White House visit in 2015 and in 2017 citing “family matters”. If Tom Brady declines the White House visit, it is not due to his political views, it will be to focus on training and rehabbing his surgically repaired knee.
The Buccaneers should be extremely excited to take to trip to the White House to meet with President Biden. Being able to travel and meet our country’s leader is a sense of normalcy since the coronavirus pandemic started last year. Being invited by the President himself to honor the best team in the NFL and celebrate their championship is considered a huge honor among players, and they are happy to get that back.
