Fantasy Football Week 10: Start and Sit - The San Diego Union-Tribune

paksijenong.blogspot.com

Here’s a look back at Week 9’s action, and fantasy advice for the week ahead:

WEEK 9 RECAP

Colts 45, Jets 30: With one of the easiest remaining schedules for running backs, Jonathan Taylor is my RB1 going forward.

Browns 41, Bengals 16: Austin Hooper and David Njoku both played 35 snaps while running 13 and 11 routes respectively. Harrison Bryant ran seven routes and played 25 snaps. They all received two targets. This usage makes all three talented tight ends nothing more than touchdown-dependent fliers on a weekly basis.

Broncos 30, Cowboys 16: Javonte Williams had a season-high 111 yards on 17 attempts, including another seven avoid tackles according to Pro Football Focus.

Dolphins 17, Texans 9: Myles Gaskin’s 34 rushing yards all came after contact. Admirable for Gaskin. Bad for Miami’s offensive line.

Falcons 27, Saints 25: Juwan Johnson being a healthy scratch is the latest indication Adam Trautman’s development is trending in the right direction.

Giants 23, Raiders 16: Zay Jones became an every-down starter — he led Vegas in snaps (66) and routes run (46) — in the aftermath of the Henry Ruggs tragedy. I don’t anticipate DeSean Jackson having a hard time supplanting him once he becomes acclimated.

Patriots 24, Panthers 6: Robby Anderson has 16 yards on four receptions the last three games.

Jaguars 9, Bills 6: Dan Arnold has been a TE7 in standard and TE3 in PPR since Jacksonville’s Week 7 bye.

Ravens 34, Vikings 31 (OT): Lamar Jackson’s current pace is for 4,694 passing yards and 1,275 rushing yards with 32 total touchdowns. You’d have a hard time replicating this on Madden.

Chargers 27, Eagles 24: Jordan Howard will likely end up back on the waiver wire trash heap as soon as Miles Sanders returns, but we can’t ignore his 29 carries and three touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Chiefs 13, Packers 7: Aaron Jones’ investors can start to worry. Jones played 16 more snaps than AJ Dillon, but only ran five more routes and had four more carries. Dillon actually received two more targets and out-produced Jones 90-to-53 in total yards.

Cardinals 31, 49ers 17: Fantasy peeps may be surprised by James Conner’s 11 total touchdowns through nine games, but I’m more surprised that Conner hasn’t been a mainstay on the weekly injury report.

Titans 28, Rams 16: As expected, Tennessee used multiple backs to replace Derrick Henry. D’Onta Foreman was the most impressive — he finished with 29 yards on five attempts — and it would surprise me if his role doesn’t expand in the weeks ahead.

Steelers 29, Bears 27: Despite Khalil Herbert’s impressive play recently, the rookie was relegated to the bench in David Montgomery’s return. Herbert only played 10 snaps and had just four carries.

Here’s my best bets for Week 10:

BALTIMORE AT MIAMI

Obvious starters: Lamar Jackson (BAL), Mark Andrews (BAL), Marquise Brown (BAL), Ravens D/ST, Mike Gesicki (MIA).

Who to start: Devonta Freeman (BAL) is a solid flex option with Latavius Murray doubtful to play on a short week. Rashod Bateman (BAL) finished as the WR36 and WR33 in PPR the last two weeks, which means he’s already exhibiting WR3/flex upside. Myles Gaskin (MIA) maintains flex value with at least 15 touches in four of the last five. Jaylen Waddle (MIA) has received double-digit targets in three of the last four.

Who to sit: Le’Veon Bell (BAL) and Ty’Son Williams (BAL) remain touchdown-dependent. There are better options than Tua Tagovailoa (MIA) or Jacoby Brissett (MIA) this week.

Sleeper: Durham Smythe (MIA) is a solid punt option in DFS against a defense that has allowed the third-most yards (595) and second-most touchdowns (six) to tight ends.

ATLANTA AT DALLAS

Obvious starters: Kyle Pitts (ATL), Cordarrelle Patterson (ATL), Dak Prescott (DAL), Ezekiel Elliott (DAL), CeeDee Lamb (DAL).

Who to start: Matt Ryan (ATL) is remains a solid streaming option with multiple touchdown passes in six of the last seven. Monitor his hamstring, but otherwise I’m rolling with Amari Cooper (DAL) against a defense that has allowed multiple touchdowns to wide receivers in five of eight games this season. Dalton Schultz (DAL) has at least four receptions, 54 yards or a touchdown in five of the last six.

Who to sit: Mike Davis (ATL) has regressed to a touchdown-dependent option. The matchup is nice, but the volume makes it hard to trust Olamide Zaccheaus (ATL) this week. Tony Pollard (DAL) only has flex value if it appears Elliott will be limited with his bruised knee.

Sleeper: Russell Gage (ATL) has at least five receptions or a touchdown in the last three games he’s played.

NEW ORLEANS AT TENNESSEE

Obvious starters: Alvin Kamara (NO), AJ Brown (TEN).

Who to start: The Saints D/ST is the sixth-best option in fantasy since their Week 6 bye. The Titans D/ST is actually the top defense in fantasy since Week 4. Julio Jones (TEN) has flex value against a defense that has allowed six touchdowns to wide receivers in the last three games.

Who to sit: Marquez Callaway (NO) and Mark Ingram (NO) remain touchdown-dependent. You’re only utilizing Taysom Hill (NO) if he starts under center. Adam Trautman (NO) is trending in the right direction, but he isn’t trustworthy yet. Ryan Tannehill (TEN) has one-or-fewer touchdown passes in seven of nine games this season. I’m fading Adrian Peterson (TEN) and Jeremy McNichols (TEN) with this matchup.

Sleeper: Solid usage (15 targets the last two games) and a beatable secondary make Deonte Harris (NO) a good flex option in deeper leagues.

JACKSONVILLE AT INDIANAPOLIS

Obvious starters: Jonathan Taylor (IND), Michael Pittman Jr. (IND), Colts D/ST.

Who to start: Marvin Jones Jr. (JAX) and Laviska Shenault Jr. (JAX) both have WR3/flex upside against a defense that has allowed 15 touchdowns in nine games to wide receivers. Dan Arnold (JAX) has at least four receptions and 60 yards in three of the last four games. Jamal Agnew (JAX) has flex value in deeper PPR formats with 20 receptions in the last four games. Carson Wentz (IND) has 14 touchdowns against only two interceptions the last six games.

Who to sit: I’m fading James Robinson (JAX) until we see his heel is healthy. Carlos Hyde (JAX) only has value if Robinson remains sidelined. I’d only consider Nyheim Hines (IND) a flex option in deeper PPR formats. Mo Alie-Cox (IND) remains touchdown-dependent. T.Y. Hilton (IND) remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Sleeper: Trevor Lawrence (JAX) has streaming value if you’re in a pinch against a defense that has allowed 23 touchdowns in nine games to quarterbacks this season.

CLEVELAND AT NEW ENGLAND

Obvious starters: Damien Harris (NE), Patriots D/ST.

Who to start: Jarvis Landry (CLE) maintains WR3/flex upside with 23 targets the last three games. D’Ernest Johnson (CLE) will receive a heavy workload if Nick Chubb remains on the COVID-19 list. The Browns D/ST face an offense that has produced multiple turnovers in five of the last seven. Jakobi Meyers (NE) maintains flex value with an almost 25 percent target share. Hunter Henry (NE) is fantasy’s TE4 in standard leagues since Week 4. Brandon Bolden (NE) becomes an option if Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson remain in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Who to sit: A run-first approach and a difficult matchup makes it hard to trust Baker Mayfield (CLE) this week. The Browns tight ends are all touchdown-dependent. Jonnu Smith (NE) remains touchdown-dependent, and Henry keeps hogging all the touchdowns. Nelson Agholor (NE) remains boom-or-bust.

Sleeper: Donovan Peoples-Jones (CLE) has at least five receptions, 70 yards or a touchdown in his last three games.

BUFFALO AT N.Y. JETS

Obvious starters: Josh Allen (BUF), Stefon Diggs (BUF), Bills D/ST.

Who to start: Both Zack Moss (BUF) and Devin Singletary (BUF) have RB2 upside against a defense that has allowed 14 touchdowns to running backs in the last seven games — Singletary becomes an obvious start is Moss remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Both Emmanuel Sanders (BUF) and Cole Beasley (BUF) maintain WR3/flex upside while playing in this dynamic offense. You’re starting Dawson Knox (BUF) if he’s active against a defense that has allowed four touchdowns the last four games to tight ends. A robust 57 touches in three games since the bye makes Michael Carter (NYJ) a viable RB2 despite the matchup. Elijah Moore (NYJ) and Jamison Crowder (NYJ) are risky flex options because of a difficult matchup, but maintain their value in PPR.

Who to sit: I’m fading Corey Davis (NYJ) until we see how his injured hip responds to game action. I’m not trusting Mike White (NYJ) against a defense that has only allowed five touchdowns to quarterbacks this season.

Sleeper: Ty Johnson (NYJ) is fantasy’s RB11 in PPR since Week 7 with 176 yards on 13 receptions and two touchdowns thanks to the Jets keeping the offense close to the line of scrimmage.

DETROIT AT PITTSBURGH

Obvious starters: D’Andre Swift (DET), TJ Hockenson (DET), Najee Harris (PIT), Diontae Johnson (PIT), Steelers D/ST.

Who to start: Pat Freiermuth (PIT) has at least seven receptions, 58 yards or a touchdown in three straight games.

Who to sit: Jamaal Williams (DET) remains touchdown-dependent if he’s active. Jared Goff (DET) has zero touchdown passes in four of the last six. Chase Claypool (PIT) could be limited with an injured toe. I’m fading a banged-up Ben Roethlisberger (PIT) despite the premium matchup at home.

Sleeper: I expect a boost in usage for Amon-Ra St. Brown (DET) coming out of the bye.

TAMPA BAY AT WASHINGTON

Obvious starters: Tom Brady (TB), Mike Evans (TB), Chris Godwin (TB), Leonard Fournette (TB), Buccaneers D/ST, Terry McLaurin (WAS).

Who to start: JD McKissic (WAS) maintains flex value in PPR with 20 receptions the last three games. You’re starting Logan Thomas (WAS) if he’s active against a defense that has allowed at least seven receptions, 63 yards or a touchdown in seven of eight games this season. If Thomas remains inactive, Ricky Seals-Jones (WAS) is a solid streaming option.

Who to sit: Looks like Antonio Brown (TB) and Rob Gronkowski (TB) are trending in the wrong direction with their health status. Ronald Jones (TB) remains touchdown-dependent. I’m fading a banged-up Antonio Gibson (WAS) with a terrible matchup.

Sleeper: OJ Howard (TB) becomes a sneaky streaming option if Gronk is sidelined against a defense that has allowed at least five receptions or a touchdown to tight ends in six of eight games this season.

CAROLINA AT ARIZONA

Obvious starters: Christian McCaffrey (CAR), DJ Moore (CAR), James Conner (ARI), Cardinals D/ST.

Who to start: You’re starting Kyler Murray (ARI) and DeAndre Hopkins (ARI) if either is active. Zach Ertz (ARI) has been TE8 (PPR) and TE9 (standard), respectively since Week 3, regardless of what team he’s played for. Christian Kirk (ARI) has at least five receptions or a touchdown in six of nine games this season.

Who to sit: Robby Anderson (CAR) remains boom-or-bust — almost entirely bust. This is a difficult matchup to trust the Panthers D/ST on the road. Chase Edmonds (ARI) is likely out with a high ankle sprain. Rondale Moore (ARI) remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Sleeper: AJ Green (ARI) has been reinstated off the COVID-19 list and has at least five receptions or a touchdown in five of his last seven games.

MINNESOTA AT L.A. CHARGERS

Obvious starters: Dalvin Cook (MIN), Justin Jefferson (MIN), Adam Thielen (MIN), Justin Herbert (LAC), Austin Ekeler (LAC), Keenan Allen (LAC).

Who to start: Despite a dip in usage, Mike Williams (LAC) maintains WR3/flex upside with this matchup.

Who to sit: I’m fading Kirk Cousins (MIN) against a defense that has only allowed two touchdowns to quarterbacks in its last three games. I’m fading Jared Cook (LAC) against a defense that hasn’t allowed a touchdown to tight ends this season.

Sleeper: Tyler Conklin (MIN) is PPR’s TE7 since the Vikings Week 7 bye.

PHILADELPHIA AT DENVER

Obvious starters: Jalen Hurts (PHI), Dallas Goedert (PHI), Noah Fant (DEN).

Who to start: DeVonta Smith (PHI) maintains WR3/flex upside with an almost 28 percent target share and at least five receptions or a touchdown in five of nine games this season. Both Courtland Sutton (DEN) and Jerry Jeudy (DEN) maintain WR3/flex upside against a banged-up secondary. Melvin Gordon (DEN) and Javonte Williams (DEN) are viable flex options with RB2 upside against a mediocre run defense. The Broncos D/ST is a solid streaming option as a home favorite against an inconsistent offense. Tim Patrick (DEN) deserves flex consideration with at least five receptions, 64 yards or a touchdown in seven of nine games.

Who to sit: Boston Scott (PHI) is touchdown-dependent with a difficult matchup. Kenneth Gainwell (PHI) remains boom-or-bust.

Sleeper: The heavy workload (29 carries in two games) and touchdown equity — three touchdowns the last two weeks —make Jordan Howard (PHI) a viable flex play despite the difficult matchup.

SEATTLE AT GREEN BAY

Obvious starters: DK Metcalf (SEA), Tyler Lockett (SEA), Davante Adams (GB), Aaron Jones (GB).

Who to start: You’re starting Russell Wilson (SEA) or Chris Carson (SEA) if either is active. Alex Collins (SEA) maintains flex value if Carson remains sidelined. You’re starting Aaron Rodgers (GB) if he’s reinstated from the COVID-19 list. AJ Dillon (GB) has flex value in deeper standard leagues against a bad run defense.

Who to sit: Randall Cobb (GB) and Allen Lazard (GB) remain touchdown-dependent.

Sleeper: Gerald Everett (SEA) faces a defense that has allowed at least four receptions or a touchdown to tight ends in every game this season.

KANSAS CITY AT LAS VEGAS

Obvious starters: Patrick Mahomes (KC), Travis Kelce (KC), Tyreek Hill (KC), Darren Waller (LV), Josh Jacobs (LV).

Who to start: Clyde Edwards-Helaire (KC) deserves flex consideration if he’s active. Darrel Williams (KC) maintains flex value in deeper PPR with at least three receptions in five straight games, but has RB2 upside if CEH remains sidelined. Hunter Renfrow (LV) has at least five receptions, 56 yards or a touchdown in seven of eight games this season. Derek Carr (LV) deserves streaming consideration against a defense allowing the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Kenyan Drake (LV) has at least 73 total yards or a touchdown in three straight.

Who to sit: Mecole Hardman (KC) remains touchdown-dependent.

Sleeper: After being shutout on four targets against the Giants, I expect a bounce-back performance from Bryan Edwards (LV) in a potential high-scoring affair.

L.A. RAMS AT SAN FRANCISCO

Obvious starters: Cooper Kupp (LAR), Matthew Stafford (LAR), Darrell Henderson Jr. (LAR), Robert Woods (LAR), Rams D/ST, Deebo Samuel (SF), George Kittle (SF).

Who to start: It’s hard to bench Tyler Higbee (LAR) with his consistent volume despite the difficult matchup. The five receptions against the Cardinals was a welcome development for Elijah Mitchell (SF) investors.

Who to sit: Sony Michel (LAR) remains touchdown-dependent. This is a difficult matchup to trust Brandon Aiyuk (SF) despite his recent turnaround. I’m fading Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) against a defense that has allowed one-or-fewer touchdowns to quarterbacks in six of nine games this season.

Sleeper: Van Jefferson (LAR) deserves flex consideration against a defense that has struggled covering the deep ball this season.
