With Justin Fields dealing with a rib injury, Andy Dalton is expected to make his third start of the season for the Chicago Bears' Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Network's Ian Report.
Fields was injured during this past Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He was replaced by Dalton, who started Chicago's first two games of the season before losing his starting job to Fields. Against Baltimore, Dalton went 11 of 23 for 201 yards and two touchdown passes that included a go-ahead, 49-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Goodwin with under two minutes remaining. Chicago's defense was unable to secure victory, however, as Ravens backup quarterback Tyler Huntley led the Ravens on a last-minute, game-winning drive. The loss was Chicago's fourth straight defeat after a 3-3 start.
An 11-year veteran, Dalton split his first two starts of the season. The longtime Bengals quarterback has completed 65.8% of his passes this season with three touchdowns and one interception. A four-time Pro Bowler, Dalton owns a 75-67-2 overall record as an NFL starting quarterback.
Fields was 4 of 11 for 79 yards before leaving Sunday's game with an injury. The 11th overall pick in the 2021 draft, Fields was coming off his best performance of the season to date. In Chicago's Week 9 loss to the Steelers, the former Ohio State standout threw for 291 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also ran for 45 yards while directing two scoring drives in the fourth quarter.
Initial tests on Sunday did not reveal any broken ribs, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Fields was slated to undergo further testing on Monday.
