SOLON, Ohio

Receiving stolen property: SOM Center Road

At 2:30 a.m. May 14, Solon officers learned that Bentleyville police had chased an SUV in that community, but terminated the chase when the driver would not stop.

Shortly after, a Solon officer spotted the SUV on SOM Center Road and also attempted a traffic stop, as the vehicle was traveling 44 mph in a 25 mph zone. The SUV driver got onto U.S. 422 eastbound and, again, did not stop for police.

Police then learned that the SUV had been stolen from the 37000 block of Hunters Ridge in Solon. Officers conducted a patrol of that neighborhood and found a suspicious vehicle, a gold Subaru, parked in the street on Fawn Path.

This vehicle was registered to an owner living just around the corner from where it was found. Officers learned that the Subaru had been stolen from that home and left on the street nearby.

Officers also learned that another vehicle parked at the Fawn Path address had been entered and rummaged through. Both of the stolen vehicles -- the SUV and the Subaru -- had been left unlocked in driveways with their keys inside.

Later, it was learned that the stolen SUV had been recovered by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Willoughby Hills police, who arrested a Euclid man, 21. The man had been driving the stolen SUV.

Willoughby police took the man to the Lake County jail.

Charges are pending against the suspect in Solon for receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony, and for failure to comply, a fourth-degree felony.

Theft: Aurora Road

At 5:20 p.m. May 10, police were called to the Giant Eagle Market District store, 34310 Aurora Road, where a theft had just taken place.

A female suspect paid for some items in the self-checkout lane, but not others. As officers arrived, the woman was leaving the store’s parking lot in a red Hyundai. Police stopped the car and returned the woman, 39, of Solon, to the store.

The stolen merchandise totaled $60.32. Police charged the woman with theft.

Criminal damaging: Solon Road

At 10:30 p.m. May 11, a prisoner at the Solon jail, 33000 Solon Road, became uncooperative during the booking process. The prisoner, a Solon man, 23, resisted fingerprinting and broke a computer mouse.

The man was placed in a holding area until he became calm. Police charged the man with criminal damaging.

He was originally arrested by Bentleyville police for vandalism and failure to comply.

Theft: Cochran Road

At 8:55 a.m. May 13, a manager at Brennan Industries, 6701 Cochran Road, reported a check fraud involving a company bank account.

The manager believed that a check the company had sent to another company had been stolen after it was mailed, then altered and cashed.

The check had been cashed by an unknown man in the amount of $14,875.38. It was not clear where the check was cashed. The detective bureau is investigating.

Having weapons while intoxicated: U.S. 422

At 1:15 p.m. May 14, an officer stopped a car due its illegal window tint and because it did not have a visible license plate. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana inside the car.

The driver, a Cleveland woman, 52, stated that she had smoked marijuana earlier in the day and still had some in her purse.

Police checked the purse and found a loaded gun inside. The woman failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. The woman submitted a urine sample for lab testing.

Police charged her with OVI, possessing weapons while intoxicated, improper display of plates and having an illegal window tint.

Burglary: Castle Pine Drive

At 6:20 p.m. May 12, a man, 65, reported that he was away from his home from morning until evening and that, when he returned, he found that the home’s rear patio door was shattered. In addition, it was found that someone had rummaged through a bedroom.

The man was not immediately sure what may have been stolen. The detective bureau is investigating.
