A New Jersey-based logistics firm is breaking ground today on a huge shipping hub in Lancaster.

DSV International is starting work on the project at 3001 Midpoint Drive, and the industrial development will cost more than $65 million, according to filings with the state.

“We are building a new facility in Lancaster — 1 million square feet in warehouse space, 48,000 square feet of office space,” Angela Wyatt of DSV Air & Sea Inc. in Grapevine said in an email.

Dallas-based O’Brien Architects is designing the big industrial project. EMJ Constriction is the general contractor.

The project will create more than 400 jobs and serve as a regional office, according to Lancaster officials.

DSV International is owned by Danish-based DSV Cos., a global logistics firm with 60,000 employees in more than 90 countries.

DSV has almost six dozen locations in the U.S., including major facilities near DFW International Airport and logistics operations in Grand Prairie.

The warehousing and transportation firm joins a growing number of companies adding shipping hubs in the Interstate 20 and Interstate 45 corridors.

At the end of the third quarter, southern Dallas County led North Texas in warehouse building with more than 5 million square feet of construction.

Recent large industrial building leases in the area have been signed by Amazon, Mars Foods and FedEx.

More than 25 million square feet of industrial space is under construction in the Dallas-Fort Worth area — the largest development total in the U.S.
