Coral Springs Police took an illegal gun off the street after stopping an armed man for speeding on University Drive, officers said.
Jarvon Moorman, 22, of North Lauderdale, was speeding in a blue Honda Civic on North University Drive, clocked doing 58 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone, when police pulled him over Aug. 3, according to an arrest affidavit.
Coral Springs Police Officer Tristan Markland said the Civic began rolling backward toward his patrol car as Moorman reached toward the floorboard on the car’s passenger side, the affidavit states.
When Markland approached, he said he saw marijuana in the car and conducted a search. Under the passenger seat, he found a black, semi-automatic, 9 millimeter Taurus pistol loaded with a bullet in the chamber, Markland wrote in the affidavit.
Between the driver’s seat and center console, Markland spotted a 12-round ammunition magazine, loaded with 11 rounds, he wrote.
Moorman was charged with a third-degree felony for carrying a concealed firearm and was issued a citation for speeding.
He was released from Broward County Jail after posting a $1,000 bond and has pleaded not guilty to the gun charge, records show.
