Likud MK: I attempted to stop Israeli judicial reform - The Jerusalem Post

Likud MK Shalom Danino made attempts to halt the judicial reform legislation with opposition lawmakers, he admitted in a Shabbatarbut event in Beersheba on Saturday.

Danino said he had discussed efforts to temporarily halt the judicial reform legislation with National Unity MKs Gadi Eisenkot and Matan Kahana.

Danino further analyzed that the judicial reform will not go to a vote in the Knesset in its current form. "When Justice Minister Yariv Levin proposed the reform, he never thought it could hurt democracy, as a democrat himself," Danino said.

"After things get cleared up, it is possible to say 'Oh, there's potential for damage.'"

Likud MK: We should've taken judicial reform 'step-by-step'

Danino then admitted that the coalition was wrong in its approach to "bring everything at once; we should have taken it step-by-step."

"A large portion of Israelis support the reform," Danino claimed. "We could have organized the support of 75 MKs (prior to presenting the reform).

"I know some opposition members who are afraid to speak freely," Danino claimed, while also saying there are some coalition voices who are saying that Levin needs to be "more flexible" regarding the reform.

Danino also confronted a hostile crowd in Beersheba, shouting "shame, shame," after receiving boos from anti-judicial reform protests in the audience.
