MESA, Ariz. — Dash cam video from the Arizona Department of Public Safety shows troopers using a grappler to stop a street racing suspect.
According to AZDPS, troopers and fellow Street Racing Task Force partners responded to reports of vehicles involved in intersection takeovers throughout the valley.
During an incident at one of the intersections in Mesa, one of the drivers struck a pedestrian participant and drove away from the scene. Officers with the Mesa Police Department, Phoenix Police Department and Tempe Police Department worked together to locate the suspect's vehicle.
An AZDPS sergeant successfully deployed the Grappler Police Bumper, netting one of the suspect vehicle's rear tires, and brought it to a safe stop.
The driver and the passenger, both 17-year-old males, were detained and cited for street racing.
