FRUITLAND, Md. – Maryland Delegate Charles Otto was charged with DUI following a traffic stop in Fruitland Friday afternoon.
Shortly after 5 p.m., an officer with the Fruitland Police Department stopped a GMC Envoy in the area of northbound Route 13 at Pollitt Drive after the driver reportedly failed to move over as required by law when an emergency vehicle is stopped on the shoulder. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Otto, and detected the odor of alcohol coming from his person and the vehicle.
Otto was requested to perform multiple field sobriety tests as a result, which he allegedly failed. He was charged with multiple offenses, including DUI, DWI, driver consuming alcohol beverage in passenger area of motor vehicle on highway, driving without required license and authorization, and driving with expired license.
Otto was released to a sober driver at the scene.
