Mason Crobsy (Green Bay), playing in his 216th career game, and Arlington Hambright (Chicago), making his first career start, highlight Week 9 of #NFLBuffs.
The Rookie and The Vet
Hambright started his first career NFL game for the Bears at left guard on Sunday. After making his first career appearance in Week 8, injuries to Chicago's offensive line put Hambright in the position to start for the now 5-4 Bears. In a 24-17 loss to Tennessee, Hambright played in all 77 of the Bears offensive snaps.
The rookie is one of only eight seventh-round picks from the 2020 NFL Draft to have started a game this season. He is the only offensive linemen on that list.
Crosby connected on both of his field goal attempts for the Packers in a 34-17 win over San Francisco on Thursday Night Football. Crosby made a 19-yard chip shot in the third quarter and then a 53-yarder (his season long) in the fourth to put the Packers up 34-3. He also nailed both of his extra point attempts.
Crosby is now a perfect 11-for-11 on field goal attempts this season. He is one of only three kickers in the NFL to have not missed a field goal through Week 9. Crosby is 20th all-time on the NFL's scoring list with 1,636 career points. Amongst the top-20, he is one of two players to have scored all of his points with one team. Crosby also contributed double-digit points for the Packers on Thursday for the fourth time this season, and the 67th time in his career.
Buffs In Action
Phillip Lindsay (Denver) started and ran for 23 yards on eight attempts in a 34-17 loss to Atlanta. After back-to-back weeks of 79 and 89-yards rushing, on nine and six attempts respectively, Lindsay was labeled the most disrespected running back in the NFL by 3-time Pro Bowl back, Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew points to Lindsay's early-career production and efficient running this season to why the Aurora, Colo. native is underrated at his position. The one-time Pro Bowler ranks fourth in the NFL amongst running backs in yards per attempt (5.8), yet only 33rd in attempts per game (10.6).
Despite going un-drafted, Lindsay ran for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to begin his career. In Jones-Drew's case for Lindsay, he notes that the Buff is the only un-drafted running back since at least 1970 to run for 2,000-plus yards and average 5.0-plus yards per carry in his first three seasons.
Isaiah Oliver (Atlanta) started his eighth game of the season in the Falcons victory over the Broncos. The cornerback recorded four combined tackles in the contest.
Laviska Shenault Jr. (Jacksonville) had one catch for a loss of a yard before exiting the game in the first quarter. He was later officially ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Jimmy Smith (Baltimore) started his fourth game of the year in a 24-10 win against Indianapolis. Smith played in every snap on defense and recorded 6 combined tackles, one of which was a tackle for loss. It is his second tackle for loss on the season and the first time in his ten-year career he has recorded the stat multiple times in a season.
Bye Week
Davion Taylor (Philadelphia) was not in action in Week 9 with a bye.
Buffs Sidelined
David Bakhtiari (Green Bay), Tedric Thompson (Kansas City), Ahkello Witherspoon (San Francisco), Tony Brown (Washington), and Ken Crawley (New Orleans) were all inactive for Week 9.
Chidobe Awuzie (Dallas) did not play on Sunday despite practicing throughout the week. The fourth-year cornerback is nursing a hamstring injury that put him on the Injured Reserve list earlier in the year. He is expected back in Week 11 for the Cowboys, following their Week 10 bye.
Practice Squad Buffs
Delrick Abrams Jr. (Atlanta), Steven Montez (Washington), and Juwann Winfree (Green Bay) were all on practice squads for Week 9.
Injured Reserve
Kabion Ento (Green Bay) is on the Injured Reserve list.
Opt Outs
Nate Solder (New York Giants) and Josh Tupou (Cincinnati) both opted out of the 2020 NFL season.
Transactions
Daniel Munyer was waived by Tennessee on Saturday.
