PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University baseball team will look to continue its historic start to the 2021 season with a four-game Atlantic 10 Conference series against St. Bonaventure this weekend at Hank DeVincent Field.

Already tied for the best start in program history at 21-12, the Explorers (6-2 A-10) will look to get off to their best start in Atlantic 10 history as well on Friday.

THE MATCHUPS (vs. St. Bonaventure – 4 Games)

  • Game 1: Fri., 3 p.m. – Colin Scanlon (4-2) vs. Liam Devine (2-1)
  • Game 2: Sat., 11 a.m. – Frank Elissalt (4-1) vs. Elijah Baez (1-4)
  • Game 3: Sat., 2 p.m. – Jordan Morales (1-2) vs. Donovan Moffat (1-3)
  • Game 4: Sun., 2 p.m. – Gabe Rappa (1-1) vs. Luke Lashutka (0-0)
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Explorers exploded for 18 runs over the first four innings in an 18-6 blowout win over Lehigh in seven innings on Wednesday at Hank DeVincent Field.
  • Graduate student Ryan Guckin had a monstrous afternoon, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs scored, a homer, a double and a walk.
  • La Salle plated three runs in the first inning and then made it 7-1 with four runs in the second. The Explorers blew the game open in the third with eight runs crossing the plate.
  • Senior Alfonse Sadallah also had an impressive day at the plate (2-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 walks) and on the bases (career-high 4 stolen bases, 3 runs).
  • Sophomore Elijah Dickerson hit his fifth home run of the season, while sophomore Connor Coolahan went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a stolen base.
  • Senior Jack Cucinotta also had two stolen bases, giving La Salle seven steals on the day.
ON A HISTORIC PACE
  • Sitting in first place in the Atlantic 10 standings, La Salle owns a 6-2 conference record after last weekend's sweep at UMass, which is its best league start since 2010. A win on Friday for the Explorers would make it the best A-10 start in program history. No other La Salle team has won seven A-10 games over its first nine league contests.
  • The win on Wednesday put La Salle at 21-12 overall, which ties the Explorers with the 1982 team as the best start through 33 games in program history. That 1982 team went on to finish the season 23-12.
  • La Salle has been impressive on the road at 13-6 as the away team, including 11-3 over the last 14 away games. Meanwhile, the Explorers have won each of their last three home games.
MOVIN' ON UP
  • Ryan Guckin has 41 career doubles, which is tied for eighth in program history. He needs three more to move into seventh place all-time. Guckin also has 106 career RBI, just 13 shy of 10th on the program's career list.
  • Jack Cucinotta has 37 career stolen bases, which ranks eighth in school history. He needs just one more to move into seventh place all-time. Cucinotta is also 10th in single-season history with 19 stolen bases this year so far.
  • Frank Elissalt has 67 strikeouts this season, needing only one more to tie for ninth in single-season program history. Eight more would put him in seventh, while 10 more would crack the top five.
  • Tatem Levins has 95 career RBI, needing just five more to reach 100.
  • Colin Scanlon has 138 career strikeouts, needing only eight more for 10th in school history.
ELECTRIC ELISSALT
  • Freshman right-handed pitcher Frank Elissalt was honored as both the Atlantic 10 Pitcher and Rookie of the Week on Monday following his scoreless outing at UMass. It was the fourth Rookie of the Week award this season for Elissalt.
  • Elissalt fired a seven-inning complete-game shutout in game two on Saturday to clinch a road doubleheader. He matched his career high with 11 strikeouts and allowed only two hits and one walk on 103 pitches.
  • With the win, Elissalt improved to 4-1 and dropped his ERA down to 3.78 over eight starts. The Miami native has had 10 or more strikeouts in four different games this season, averaging 8.4 per game.
SCOUTING THE BONNIES
  • St. Bonaventure sits at 4-13 overall, 3-5 in the Atlantic 10 and 2-9 on the road.
  • La Salle swept a doubleheader at St. Bonaventure on March 27.
  • The Bonnies have lost five of their last seven games and are on a two-game losing streak after losing the final two games of a four-game series with Saint Joseph's.
  • Ben Berger leads the offense with a .371 batting average, while Tyler Kelder is batting .356 with a team-high five home runs and 11 RBI.
  • Game one projected starting pitcher Liam Devine leads the team with a 2-1 record and owns a 6.32 ERA over three starts. Saturday's projected starters are Elijah Baez (1-4, 3.29 ERA) and Donovan Moffat (1-3, 5.23 ERA), while Luke Lushutka (7.56 ERA) is slated for Sunday.
