A large area on Florida’s gulf coast is under a state of emergency after a wastewater retention pond started leaking.
Crews are working to contain 300 million gallons of toxic waste water at a former phosphate processing plant.
A sizable leak was first detected on Friday. On Saturday, a state of emergency was declared.
More than 300 homes have been evacuated in the Tampa Bay area.
The Florida National Guard flew in additional pumps on Sunday in an effort to prevent a full collapse that could lead to millions of gallons of toxic water spilling out into nearby areas.
Experts on scene said if that happens, it could form a wall of water nearly 20 feet high.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says the appropriate people or business responsible for the leak will be held accountable, and that an investigation would be opened.
