There are efforts in 43 states led by the Republican Party to limit voting. Most of these laws target African-Americans and other minority groups.
Nothing will stop us from voting.
First, in reference to the anti-vote measures in Georgia — the first test case — the federal courts will knock down most of their laws. The NAACP already has filed suit and, hopefully, the U.S. Department of Justice will file suit.
Second, hopefully, President Biden will sign a voting rights
bill that will provide federal voting rules for all the states. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was monumental.
And if none of the above is implemented, you still will not stop us. The more you try to stop us from voting, the more determined we will be to vote.
Blood has been shed, men and women have been beaten and individuals have given their lives for our fair right to vote.
We love this nation and we love democracy. Fair voting laws are what make our nation a democracy.
In the words of the late poet Maya Angelou, “You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I’ll rise. ... I am the dream and the hope of the slave.”
No matter what you do to try to stop my voting rights, still I’ll vote.
