FOREST GROVE, Ore.- The Pacific University men's soccer team and Puget Sound would each walk away with a hard-earned point on Saturday afternoon after the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of soccer at Hanson Stadium.

The Boxers (3-2-1, 0-0-1 NWC) were very bright to start and scored the opening goal in the 30th minute through Cooper Sheakley (Freshman/Happy Valley, OR). Pacific looked like they would hold on for the win but the Loggers nicked the equalizer in the 87th minute to force extra time. Neither team could find a winner in the final 20 minutes and both teams would earn a point to start their Northwest Conference campaigns.

Possession was quite even throughout the contest but Puget Sound were the more dangerous team in the attacking third of the pitch. The Loggers tallied 15 shots with seven on target while the Boxers registered eight shots with five on frame

Pacific won a pair of corners around the 30-minute mark and the second of the two corners would prove to be fruitful. Jayden Adkison (Freshman/Kapolei, HI) would whip in a dangerous cross that was mishandled by the Loggers' goalkeeper. The bouncing ball in the box would fall to the foot of Noah Edwards (Freshman/Honolulu, HI) who flicked it on for Sheakley who nodded it into an open net to put his team out in front.

The Boxers would take this lead into halftime but Puget Sound would ramp up the pressure for the next 45 minutes.

The Loggers were quite lively on the attack in the second half but Zachary Aderinto (Freshman/Kailua-Kona, HI) was having a fantastic game between the posts, denying the visitors nearly every time they tested him.

In the 67th minute, Nico Allen (Junior/Sierra Vista, AZ) nearly doubled the lead when he was sent through on goal but his shot was well-saved by the Loggers' goalkeeper.

Puget Sound finally got the equalizing goal in the 87th minute when Ryan Smith got on to the end of a loose ball in the box and tucked his shot inside the box to send the game to extra time.

The two 10-minute extra time periods were uneventful except for one chance that came to Adkison with just seconds to play. The freshman tried his luck from the edge of the penalty area with the goalkeeper slightly off his line, but his shot would strike the crossbar and the two teams would finish level at 1-1.

By The Numbers
  • Aderinto made six saves in goal, matching his season-high.
  • Edwards earned his fourth assist of the season, he currently leads the team.
  • Pacific is unbeaten in their last two contests against Puget Sound
